Ryan Newman Finishes 11th in Season Opener Exhibition Race at Daytona International Speedway

"We learned a lot today with this Bass Pro Shops/Cabela's Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. I had no complaints with our car's handling. Our pit crew also got to complete a few four-tire pit stops with the new pit stop rules. They too, learned a few things in race conditions. Unfortunately we got shuffled out of the draft and didn't have a chance to make the run at the front. Good news is we learned a lot and our Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is in one piece." - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman Survives Late-Race Wreck to Finish Eighth with the No. 31 Bass Pro Shops / Cabela's Team

"Congratulations first of all to Austin (Dillon) and the No. 3 team. That is awesome for RCR and ECR and all of our partners. To get a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in Victory Lane right away, that was special as well. For the No. 31 Bass Pro Shops / Cabela's team, we just weren't in the right place at the right time and got caught up in a little bit of a mess, and that was it. We just finished with a bunch of damage, but we still finished eighth." - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman Starts on Front Row and Leads Laps Before Tire Issues Costs Liberty National Team Top-10 Run

"I'm not sure yet what happened to our right-front tire. It's unfortunate for this Liberty National Team. I think we led more laps in this race than we did all year. We started on the front row and took the lead on the first lap and by the end of the first stage we were loose, but our Camaro ZL1 was fast. I wasn't pushing it. There was no need to. Our car was that good. We lost two laps the next run because of a tire issue and the damage we received from it. At that point, it was all about strategy and doing all we could to race back onto the lead lap with about 230 laps left. I want to thank all the Liberty National guests and fans who stayed with us through the rain. We had a fast Camaro ZL1. I just wish we had the finish to prove it, but it could have been worse and glad we were able to battle back for a top-25 finish." - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman Scores 11th-Place Finish for Cat Racing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

"We struggled at the start and had really bad vibration, a set of tires, I think. That was good bounce back for this Caterpillar Camaro ZL1 team. We have some work to do it looks like. Those boys with the Ford's are strong here on the 1.5-milers and it was great to see we've shown some speed as well. We just have to get in there and battle in that top-10 for an entire race. I know we're capable. We had the speed here at Las Vegas when we tested and we just for whatever reason didn't have it this weekend. We will regroup. I want to thank all the Cat Racing fans for joining us at the track today." - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman and Grainger Racing Once Again Lead Laps at ISM Raceway

"Our Grainger Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 had the speed today. The one thing we struggled to do last season was to lead laps and now we've led in two races so far. It's great to see the RCR Chevys up front. Our biggest challenge was maintaining track position and it is pretty evident what we need to work on and I'm sure we'll get it resolved. I'm just proud to have contended for a chance to win because laps led will soon convert into wins" - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman and the Chevrolet Accessories Camaro ZL1 Team Finish 21st at Auto Club Speedway

"We made a major overhaul to our Chevrolet Accessories Camaro ZL1 last night. Our car fired off fast but wasn't as fast as we needed it to be on the long run like our teammate's car. Unfortunately, from the beginning our handling was way off. Our car was so tight in the corners and loose off. We're scratching our heads right now figuring out what went wrong. It wasn't for a lack of trying on our part. We threw everything at it, had one run in the top 10 but could never get the handling in our favor to stay up with the lead pack." - Ryan Newman

First Short-Track Event Produces 18th-Place Finish for Ryan Newman and eBay Motors Team

"This certainly wasn't the way we were expecting our day to go at Martinsville Speedway after unloading a fast Chevrolet. Our eBay Motors Camaro ZL1 was a lot better on Saturday and despite having the Trucks on track before us, I still thought we would be a lot better than we were today. We battled tight in the center and loose off the corners during the entire race. Oddly enough for a race at Martinsville, we had very few caution flags. We fine tuned this Camaro ZL1 whenever we could, but just couldn't get the balance where we needed to contend with the guys up front. We'll take a few days to unwind over the off-weekend and refocus for Texas" - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman and No. 31 Grainger Camaro ZL1 Team Finish 27th at Texas Motor Speedway

"This Grainger Camaro ZL1 had good speed this weekend. We stayed consistently in or around the top-12 for most of the race, but tried to stretch our last run there and ended up blowing a tire and hitting the wall. I thought I probably could have left Texas with a top-10 finish if not for the blown tire, but things like that happen. It's a gamble that didn't pay off. I think the racing at Texas is exciting, and definitely fast, but we're still getting adjusted to the new surface. Solid Comeback For Ryan Newman and the Bass Pro Shops/Cabela's Team at Bristol Motor Speedway

"We had a top five car and just got the wrong spot on the restart there near the end. I wish we would have restarted on the outside instead of the inside. It was a good run for our Bass Pro/Cabela's Chevrolet. The team did a good job this weekend. Starting clear back like we did in 30th and then being as high as second during the race, it was a good team effort. It's certainly something to build on while going to one of my favorite race tracks next weekend. Thanks to all the fans who braved the elements and watched a good race with us yesterday as well as today." - Ryan Newman

Late-Race Mishap Costs Ryan Newman and the No. 31 Childress Vineyards Chevrolet ZL1 Team Top-10 Finish

"Richmond Raceway is one of my favorite tracks and to run just outside the top five, get assessed a pit-road penalty and then battle back onto the lead lap says a lot about this No. 31 Childress Vineyards Camaro ZL1 team. It's unfortunate on the restart with 30 to go that we got into the back of a car. Everyone started checking up and I just hit him square in the back. I did all I could but the damage cost us our race. I'm just so disappointed right now. We had a good car and a finish that doesn't reflect it." - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman Drives the Caterpillar Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 to Top-10 Finish at Talladega Superspeedway

"I'm just happy for myself and the entire Caterpillar team to have been in front of the 'Big One' for a change. The start of our weekend saw us caught up in a practice wreck. It is what it is at a place like this. So many things happen here that are out of our control but we kept our primary engine and raced the back-up. Stage 1 did not go as planned for us but we managed to get back out front by Stage 2 to run in the top 10. My plan was to go when we could, but be smart about it and fortunately for us, we had luck on our side. We've been running well but haven't had much to show for it as of late so I'm happy that this Cat Racing team can leave here with a ninth-place finish." - Ryan Newman

Handling and Tire Issues Result in 33rd-Place Finish for Ryan Newman and Cat Racing at Dover

"Our Caterpillar Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 didn't respond the way we anticipated from the time we unloaded and throughout the course of the race weekend at Dover. It wasn't for a lack of effort. Ryan Newman Collected in Late-Race Accident Costing Bass Pro Shops/Cabela's Team a Top-10 Finish at Kansas Speedway

"We definitely rebounded from last week and for that, I am proud of this Bass Pro Shops / Cabela's team. We were competitive and made it into the top five. Our strategy of not pitting was a good call. I think we could have come home with at least a top-10 finish. We were just an innocent bystander when they crashed underneath me, in front of me and just got all wadded up. I had no place to go. It's just unfortunate. To get 14 laps from the end and tear up a bunch of cars like that just kind of stinks." - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman Mixes it Up in the Caterpillar/Grainger Camaro ZL1 in the All-Star Race Before Hitting the Wall on the Final Lap

"This one is on me. I miscounted the green-white-checkered flag to end Stage 3 and I left off the gas too soon. It cost us a top-five on the final restart and instead we took the green in 11th. I hate it for the Caterpillar/Grainger team. We got off sequence on pit stops and the way the cautions fell from there, it really worked in our favor. I simply messed up. I did all I could do to regain the ground I had lost. On the final restart, we climbed back into the top five but unfortunately when we took the white flag, I made contact with the wall and lost all our momentum resulting in the 16th-place finish. We had nothing to lose so I went for for it in the end. There was a lot of jockeying for position throughout the race. The first stage we got as high as 11th, made some adjustments to loosen me up and I was way too loose to really contend for anything. We used the next caution to make adjustments, worked back up and then decided to gamble in Stage 3 by pitting with teammate Austin Dillon when most of the front runners stayed out. It paid off with the big crash and got us the track position we needed, but unfortunately we got bit in the end. It was fun out there. I hope the fans enjoyed the show we put on." - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman and Liberty National Team See Top-10 Finish Spoiled By Right-Front Hub Issue

"This team is in desperate need of some good luck. Tonight we had another top-10 finish get away from us due to a right-front hub issue with less than 100 laps to go. It's frustrating. We had a setback on our first stop with a penalty. It dropped us from fourth to 29th. Then to race back in the top 10 and earn stage points in Stages Two and Three, it's just so disappointing. Overall, it was a solid weekend for us and an improvement in qualifying with the sixth-place starting spot. Racing in the top 5 and top 10 for a majority of the night shows the progress we are making with this Camaro. We just need to get the finishes." - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman and The Kalahari Team Settle for 25th-Place Finish After Contact with 10 Laps to Go

"Overall, we made gains in qualifying again, but handling-wise we weren't all that good. We pushed in Turn 3, which was our weakest point on the track, and were loose in Turn 2. We took advantage of the stage cautions to make major adjustments to help climb into the top 12, but we ended up being an innocent bystander at the end. I said right before that restart with 10 to go that we'd have another caution and we did. Unfortunately, we were involved, when the 20 hit the Kalahari Camaro ZL1 in the left rear. We were running 12th at the time and were hoping to gain some spots, but we had to pit for repairs and that cost us all our track position. We'll keep at it to try and get better and hope to get some luck on our side." - Ryan Newman

Rain Shortens Firekeepers Casino 400 Resulting in 22nd-Place Finish for Ryan Newman and the Okuma Team

"Rain certainly played a big role in strategizing for this race. Early on we raced in the top 10, but as rain approached we opted for four fresh tires in hopes of making it to the end of Stage 2 in a better scenario. Instead, we realized our car did not respond well in traffic and dirty air. It pretty much bogged us down and prevented our Okuma Camaro ZL1 from making up the ground we had anticipated gaining. Then the rain finally came to end the race. It has been a tough go for us of late. Here's hoping the off weekend will allow us to recharge and get this bad luck monkey off our back." - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman and Grainger/American Red Cross Team Earn Stage Points Enroute to 24th-Place Finish at Sonoma Raceway

"The first two stages went exactly like we had planned. We wanted to run the stages out so that we could earn as many points as possible. Our Grainger/American Red Cross Camaro ZL1 was so much better than the Chevy we had the last time we were here so kudos to the entire RCR organization for giving us a competitive car. We finished the first two stages in the top 10 and going into the final stage, our car needed a little more help through the right turns but we were still capable of a top-10 or top-12 run. Unfortunately, we gambled on what we had hoped would have been a caution, but it did not pan out and it cost us considerable track position. We rallied back but just ran out of laps. We are making gains but we're not quite able to translate them into the finishes. We'll get there." - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman Survives Wild Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona to Finish Eighth in Bass Pro Shops/Cabela's Chevrolet

"We had some luck on our side tonight to miss a lot of those big wrecks early and the No. 31 Bass Pro Shops/Cabela's Chevrolet was going to be in pretty good shape. We got squeezed between two cars late in the race and I didn't lift, so we got some damage from that. Then the big wreck happened coming to the white flag, I got into the No. 6 and we got even more damage to the nose and fenders. We had a tire rub on the last green-white-checkered but still came home with an eighth-place finish. Not a bad night for everyone on this Bass Pro Shops/Cabela's team." - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman Generates 21st-Place Finish in the No. 31 Caterpillar Camaro ZL1 at Kentucky Speedway

"Track position was the name of the game tonight. We started off with a really bad vibration. Fortunately, it worked itself out after we bolted on new Goodyear tires. From there, we focused on improving our handling. My biggest issue all night was Turns 1 and 2. Everyone talks about Turn 3, but it was neutral for us. Overall, we definitely improved our Caterpillar Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 from when we tested here earlier this year, by leaps and bounds. We definitely improved our qualifying effort, but ultimately it comes down to where we finished and we still have some work to do. Our car wasn't that bad, but getting track position after that first run and a pit road penalty were too tough to overcome. Thanks to Caterpillar for all their activation plans this weekend. I think some race fans are going home happy after our Cat INV2000 Portable Inverter Generator giveaways." - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman and the Chevrolet Accessories Team Earn Solid 6th-Place Finish at New Hampshire Motor Speedway

"Overall, we made some really nice gains during today's race from where we started this weekend. We had a competitive car, especially during the long green-flag runs. The biggest challenge we battled all day with our Chevrolet Accessories Camaro ZL1 was loose in, tight center, loose off. My crew Chief, Luke Lambert, kept up with the track and our adjustments allowed us to race our way into the top 10 by the 200-lap mark. Our pit stops were on point today and I appreciate our pit crew for their hard work. They either gained spots for me, or at least maintained, which was crucial. We've struggled this season, but it's sure nice to race for a top-five, top-10 finish, and have a good points day, too. "I don't ever give up and this No. 31 Bass Pro Shops / Cabela's Camaro ZL1 team doesn't either. Our race was pretty frustrating to me. I knew we had a top-10 car, but we got blocked quite a bit which caused us to lose momentum and track position, especially during the middle portions of the race. All and all another solid job in the pits for the pit crew. For a while there, our track position didn't reflect the kind of Chevy Luke Lambert and the team prepared for me, but it doesn't matter now. Ryan Newman and The Lucas Oil Team Recover From Spin to Finish 19th at Watkins Glen International

"The start of our race went as planned. Our goal was to earn as many stage points as we could and we accomplished that in the first stage by finishing sixth. That's a positive. But 20 laps into Stage 2, we got spun out by a competitor and it was costly to us, resulting in the 34th-place running spot. We regrouped and drove up into the top 20 but that's all we could get by the time the checkered flag waved. We had a good run against the No. 2 car, but our handling needed a little more work. We just battled with Turns 5, 6 and 7 all weekend. I feel like our Lucas Oil Camaro ZL1 was an improvement from last year so we'll take it and keep digging." - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman Earns Stage Points and Leads Laps in the Grainger Camaro ZL1 Despite 15th-Place Finish at Michigan International Speedway

"Our No. 31 Grainger Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 had a lot of speed today at Michigan International Speedway. We started off really strong by running in the top 10 for the entire first stage. Through the first few laps, the car was a little tight but it freed up as we got through the stage. Finishing eighth at the end of Stage 1 was big for this team. It's crucial to get as many points as possible as we approach the Playoffs, which is exactly what we did. However, the second stage proved to be difficult. Less than 15 laps into Stage 2, the right rear brake line broke. We had to come in several times during the stage to fix the issue. The crew worked their tails off to quickly solve the problem and get the car back on the track. During the final stage, we led the race for several laps and took advantage of it until we needed to come in for fuel with 10 laps remaining. Our team fought hard to keep us on the lead lap which resulted in finishing 15th. The Grainger Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was definitely a top-10 car, had it not been for the brake line issue. We'll gather the troops and regroup as we prepare for the night race at Bristol next weekend." - Ryan Newman

"Our Bass Pro Shops/Cabela's Camaro ZL1 had speed this weekend. Unfortunately qualifying didn't go as planned but I wasn't too concerned about it because our practices went well. Once the race started we battled tight and loose conditions, but by halfway, we were balanced fairly well. The biggest issue we had was being able to maneuver through all the rubber on the track. Our Chevy either plowed or shook itself loose. I think we're all looking forward to the off weekend so we can recharge and get ready for Darlington. Ryan Newman and Caterpillar Team Crushed After Top-Six Run Ends In Accident Resulting in 19th-Place Finish

"We had another strong start to the weekend by leading final practice and qualifying sixth. When the race started, our Caterpillar Camaro ZL1 was extremely tight so we needed to use our first stop to free us up. For most of the race, we fine tuned our No. 31 with wedge adjustments. Turns 1 and 3 were my biggest issues while we ran loose on longer the green-flag runs. Regardless, we raced the majority of the event in the top 10. There were two pit strategies going and we were on the more favorable side with the No. 42. We had an extra set of tires compared to half of the front runners. With about 55 laps to go, it was time to pit. But, before we made it to pit road, we got wrecked. It's a shame. The Cat Racing team brought me another fast car. We found ourselves three laps down after addressing a tire rub under green, and from there, we hoped for cautions so that we could take the wave around. We got two laps back, but it wasn't enough. Our bid for the Playoffs comes down to Indy. We have to win, and I've done it before when it mattered most." - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman and the Grainger Team Contend for Race Win at Indianapolis Before Crossing the Bricks in 10th Place

"From the start of this race, it was all about track position. Tires didn't mean a whole lot. Our No. 31 Grainger Camaro ZL1 was decent but really aero-dependent. If I got really close to someone, the car would plow. If someone got behind me, the car would snap loose. Our laps times in clean air were as good as the top-five cars, but we just needed the track position and a shot at the end. Fortunately for us our strategy paid off and we were in contention with 10 laps to go. We lined up sixth on the final restart, but with all that dirty air, it just wasn't going to happen for us. All in all, we had absolutely no practice or qualifying so great job by my crew chief Luke Lambert and the rest of the No. 31 crew for unloading a competitive car for me at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Our regular season may be over, but our plan remains the same, win. We've got 10 races to keep improving on our Camaro and 10 more chances to win." - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman and Liberty National Team Earn Second-Straight Top-10 Finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

"We had a fast Liberty National Camaro ZL1 all weekend. I was disappointed in our qualifying effort, but on Saturday we won second practice and finished fifth in Happy Hour. Despite starting 22nd, we had plenty of speed and finished 10th in Stage 1. We never really dropped below 13th. Our car really responded well the longer the green-flag run and all we made were just small chassis changes. It all came down to good restarts, especially when it counted most during the green-white-checkered finish. I'm pleased with our second-straight top 10." - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman and the Bass Pro Shops/Cabela's Team Show Speed at Richmond Raceway

"Our Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's Camaro ZL1 showed a lot of speed in both practices on Friday. It really came to life on long green-flag runs which didn't work in our favor during qualifying. We were definitely better than 17th and when the race started, we gained four spots despite being extremely loose. After our first service, we lost some ground to handling. After working on the chassis at our next opportunity, we got back up in contention running comfortably in the top 10 and as high as eighth. By lap 250, both RCR cars were in the top 10. Unfortunately, we had a uncontrolled tire on the next stop that cost us a lap. We almost got the break we needed, but I was entering pit road when the caution flew. Quite a few cars were put down a lap so we were racing about eight cars for the free pass. We gained three more spots before the checkered flag waved for a 15th place finish. It's disappointing. We were a top-10 car like our teammate. We'll keep bringing fast cars to the track and see what we can get. I can't wait for the Roval next week." - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman and The Grainger Racing Team Make It Out of the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval with an 11th-Place Finish

"From the get-go we battled the same thing that we experienced at the Roval test session - loose and tight conditions through certain corners. We ended up with damage to the Grainger/American Red Cross Camaro ZL1 a few laps into the first practice and didn't get to run many laps, so qualifying was tough. We lined up 28th. Our goal was to steer clear of trouble once the race started. If I tried to get more out of the Grainger/American Red Cross Camaro ZL1, it wouldn't respond. It actually slowed down. It also felt like I had no left spring to get through the chicane. Despite the challenges, we kept our nose clean and raced as high as 11th before we got spun out on lap 74. Needless to say I'm not happy with what happened. We had to switch gears and conserve fuel in hopes of regaining some of the track position we lost in case guys could not make it to the end on fuel. Then with six laps to go, it was chaos and we somehow made it out. We finished 11th and that's respectable for us. I'm happy for all the guys on this No. 31 team. We didn't give up." - Ryan Newman

Overtime at Dover Equates to 17th-Place Finish for Ryan Newman and Waste Masters Solutions/22 in 22 Team

"I wanted to close out Dover with a better result than that for the Waste Masters Solutions/22 in 22 Camaro ZL1 team. We got down early and gambled on taking the wave around a few times, but we never were able to race our way back onto the lead lap. It certainly wasn't for a lack of effort. For some reason, we needed more speed and battled loose in, tight center and loose off. Luke (Lambert, crew chief) made good calls today both with adjustments and strategy so I appreciate that. We'll keep at it and have our fingers crossed for Talladega." - Ryan Newman

Loose Wheel Spoils Day for Ryan Newman and the No. 31 Liberty National Camaro ZL1

"Taking the green flag P22 in our No. 31 Liberty National Camaro ZL1 gave us an opportunity to see how the race would play out early on in the pack up front. As Stage 1 wore on, the Camaro ZL1 become loose in the tri-oval and tight everywhere else. Near the end of that stage, it felt like the left rear was going down but thankfully that didn't happen. Starting the second stage P12 was key to show the speed we had at the beginning of the race. Unfortunately, a loose wheel on lap 75 forced us to make a green-flag pit stop and put us a couple laps down. Before the final stage, we did a fuel-only pit stop to give us options later in the race. We were in lucky dog position for the final 20 laps and eventually caught a break to put us on the lead lap with two laps remaining. However, in overtime I was caught in a wreck and the car was heavily damaged. I know we were better than where we finished, P25. Sometimes the dominoes just don't fall your way. We'll be ready for Kansas next week and hopefully string together some solid runs to close out the year." - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman and the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet Team Turn in Top-15 Performance at Kansas Speedway

"All weekend long our Caterpillar Chevrolet favored long green-flag runs. Our balance was pretty good, but for whatever reason we just lacked take-off and overall speed. Our biggest issue was in traffic. Our car just plowed but we kept up with it as the track changed throughout the race. We ran as high as 10th and as low as 16th. crew chief Luke Lambert did a great job keeping up with the track. We just needed a little more speed to be a force to contend with the top-10 cars consistently. There's four more to go so we'll keep doing our best to close out the season." - Ryan Newman

Ryan Newman and E-Z-GO Team Turn In Top-10 Finish

"RCR brought a fast E-Z-GO Camaro ZL1 for me this weekend. We won Happy Hour and despite a disappointing qualifying effort, we had a good idea what the issue was and knew come race time, we would be fine and we were. We never raced outside the top 10 until NASCAR called a speeding penalty on us. I'm scratching my head over that, but we knew we had the speed to work our way back up with over 200 laps remaining. With rain threatening us, Luke (Lambert-crew chief) made a great call to speed things up by staying out at a caution. The call put us back where we belonged in the top 10 with less than 100 circuits remaining. It was a lot of fun out there. I'm still puzzled over the speeding penalty. I was afraid it might take a good finish from us, but the strategy call got us back into contention and it all worked out for us." - Ryan Newman

Caterpillar Next Gen Excavator Camaro Debuts at Texas Motor Speedway and Generates 18th-Place Finish

"We had our hands full today. Turns 1 and 2 were super tight. Crew chief Luke Lambert and the team made a series of changes during the first half of the race, but for whatever reason, we could not get the Caterpillar Next Gen Excavator Camaro ZL1 to respond until 125 laps remaining. We started to make some headway, but an untimely caution put us down 2 laps so we needed a break. It just did not work out in our favor. Fortunately we had that caution to go into overtime and we were able to gain a few spots in the end to finish in the top 20. I want to thank all the folks from Caterpillar and the companies represented on our car for designing the coolest Excavator I have ever seen. I also want to thank the over 175 guests who watched us compete here in Texas." - Ryan Newman

Shootout to the Finish Results in 11th-Place Finish for Ryan Newman and Cat Global Mining Team at ISM Raceway

"We battled pretty much the same issues all weekend. Our Cat Global Mining Camaro ZL1 was tight in Turns 1 and 2 and then loose in Turn 3. Obviously we weren't happy with our qualifying effort but our car typically likes the long green-flag runs that are common at ISM Raceway so we made up the ground when the race started. Turns 1 and 2 was our biggest challenge but we were able to manage it and race the majority of the event in the top 10. We even drove up to fifth by lap 230. We ended up having a 12-lap shootout to the finish where we lined up ninth. I thought we had a top-10 finish in the cards but it just wasn't meant to be. Shoutout to the Cat crew for a great job in the pits and thanks to all the Cat Global Mining customers for cheering us on today." - Ryan Newman
